½ pint milk
Small onion
1 tablespoon cream
2 oz. breadcrumbs
2 cloves (stuck into onion)
½ oz. butter
Blade of mace (or pinch of powdered mace)
Salt and pepper
Infuse the onion and spices in the milk in a double saucepan for \ hour or more (if you have no double saucepan use ordinary pan and a very low heat). Remove the onion, add the other ingredients and heat for 15 minutes, or until breadcrumbs absorbed.
