After Malcolm was ill early in 1966, he and I went on a two-month holiday. We started in Provence and then went on to a borrowed house in Corsica, where we were joined by Kathy. I remedied the fact that I had forgotten to pack a cookery book for Corsica by pinching a copy of Elizabeth David's French Provincial Cooking from Graeme Shankland whom we visited in Provence. Having lots of time in Corsica and the right ingredients to hand for the one cookery book I had with me, I spent happy hours experimenting at the calor-gas cooker.
