1 Spanish onion finely chopped
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 pound cooked roast beef, minced (or lamb)
½ pint rich beef gravy
2 teaspoons Worcester sauce
1 tablespoon chopped parsley
4 teaspoon mixed herbs
¼ Salt and freshly ground black pepper
For mashed potato, two tablespoons melted butter, cream (or top of the milk), one egg (optional)
Sauté onion in olive oil until transparent and soft; add minced meat, gravy, Worcester sauce, parsley, herbs and salt and pepper, to taste. Add cream, melted butter, and beaten egg to hot mashed potatoes and season to taste with salt and pepper. Place meat mixture in deep, well-buttered fireproof dish. Top with mashed potatoes and bake in moderately hot oven (400 F) until potatoes are golden brown. Serves 6.
