4½ oz. butter
½ oz. ground almonds
2 oz. sugar
Pinch of baking powder
l egg yolk
Pinch of salt
8 oz. flour
Cream together the butter and sugar, and mix in the yolk of egg. Mix together the flour, ground almonds, salt and baking powder, and work it into the butter, etc. Form into three rounds, ¼" thick, prick well, and bake in a very moderately heated oven for about 25 minutes.
For the filling, crush some strawberries, add to them a little sugar and whipped cream, and spread on two rounds. Place the rounds on top of each other with the plain round on top. Decorate the top with whipped cream and strawberries, although the recipe says decorate with piped whipped cream 'roses' and pistachio nuts.
